Employer I-9 Audits by ICE increase along with fines
Increasing significantly is the number of Form I-9 audits conducted by ICE and fines for employers found to have I-9 violations. Last fiscal year, monetary fines increased to $12.4 million, compared to $10.4 million the prior year. To prepare for ICE I-9 audits, employers should conduct internal I-9 audits on an annual or semi-annual basis. Form I-9 corrections should be carefully made under the guidance of a Form I-9 expert. I-9 corrections to the Form I-9 that are not completed in accordance with ICE guidelines could lead to increased liability for the employer.
